Tetbury Town Council’s new Youth Committee

The new Youth Committee was set up following the request of a member of the public who had been involved in something similar in another area outside of Gloucestershire, with the support of several Tetbury Town Councillors who have a particularly keen interest in youth provision within Tetbury and the surrounding area.

The Committee’s establishment was fully endorsed by the Town Council at a meeting on 22nd July 2019 with the remit to form a cohesive platform for all youth organisations, to form a Working Group that involves all youth focused organisations, to enable working together (involving the youth), and together provide services that the town can be proud of. The Committee has asked the Working Group to source, collate and provide the data needed for this.

The guiding principal of the Youth Committee is the co-ordination of youth services, working in collaboration with the established providers through the Working Group, rather than to direct them in their operations.

The Youth Committee will use the information to determine the ongoing funding requirements required to help in the provision of Youth services in the future, working closely with partner agencies to develop the service. We envisage this first year to be spent: fact finding and information gathering; providing a central register of all youth services and contact details; and creating a Youth section on the Town Council website.

We very much hope that through all of the next year, we will gather enough information to enable a service our towns youth can be proud of and engage with, .

Councillor Ann Pearce
Chair of the Youth Committee
