Works have started at the public conveniences in West Street, where Cotswold District Council is installing equipment to begin charging users of the toilets.

The council provides 11 toilet facilities in towns across the district, and charges users in all but four of them – including Tetbury. A cross-party group of councillors has recommended that it now introduces charging at the remaining four, free public convenience sites. Cotswold District Council will continue to subsidise provision of the toilets, to ensure they can remain open, but it is asking those who use the facilities to contribute towards the running costs so that council taxpayers from across the district aren’t fully funding public conveniences.

Like almost every council across the country, Cotswold District Council’s finances are under significant strain – and so it is having to carefully consider what discretionary services (like public conveniences) it provides, and how. The works are taking place between Tuesday 5 August and Thursday 7 August.

If you’d like more information about this, you can contact the council’s customer services team on: on 01285 623000 (available from 9am to 2pm Monday to Friday) or by emailing customer.services@cotswold.gov.uk.
