Tetbury Town Council has resolved to take decisive action to address the growing concern over burial provision in the town.

Following a public meeting held on Wednesday 4th September 2024, where burial space shortages were discussed, the Council was urged to consider engaging with a consultancy specialising in Bereavement Design, Planning and Development. Despite the initial recommendation not being pursued, the matter was revisited due to limited burial provision.

At the Full Council meeting on Monday 21st July 2025, the Heritage, Environment and Community Committee formally requested that the proposal be reconsidered. The Council resolved to engage with the specialist consultancy, who will now conduct comprehensive site searches within the Tetbury local authority area and up to 1 mile from the local authority area boundary to identify suitable locations for a new burial ground. These searches will begin shortly, and the findings will be presented to the Council for further discussion and decision-making.

Tetbury Town Council remains committed to ensuring respectful and sustainable burial provision for the community and will continue to keep residents informed as the project progresses.

Cllr Steve Scott

Mayor of Tetbury Town Council
