One of my first community events that I attended after my election as Mayor, not in an official capacity but as a volunteer, was the new Tetbury Parkrun. I would like to promote ‘Living Well Longer’ in our community and reduce rural and social isolation this year and the new free weekly event Parkrun can help with this. You do not have to be a runner to take part, you can run, jog or walk the 5k course, which starts and finishes at the Goods Shed every Saturday at 9am or you can become a Parkrun volunteer Marshall. Afterwards, you can meet other participants over coffee and cake or breakfast in The Whistle Stop Cafe, for more information either pop to The Goods Shed at 8.30am any Saturday or contact firstname.lastname@example.org
There is also The Coffee Pot at Christchurch on a Wednesday morning – where you can come and meet old and new friends for refreshments and a chat and in August it will be Holiday at Home – please look for their article and contact them if you would like to take part or know someone who may like to.
It was good to see so many residents and visitors enjoying themselves at the Annual Woolsack Races and French Market, congratulations to the organisers for putting on this free community event.
My first official event and one which I was very proud to represent the town at, was to attend the church service and take the salute at the annual Royal Air Force Air Cadet Bristol and Gloucestershire Wing parade on 8th June. To see so many young people marching and our community coming out to support them was wonderful. As part of the D-Day celebrations we also had exhibitions at The Malt House – thanks to History of Tetbury Society (HOTS) and Elisabeth Hancock – and many shops and businesses took part by dressing their windows 1940’s style and the day rounded off with the Swing Band in The Greyhound, many thanks to all who took part.
I would also like to let you all know that myself and the Deputy Mayor, Rob McCorkell, are going to be holding ‘drop in’ sessions for residents on a Friday afternoon 2pm – 4pm at the Old Coombe House Community Hub, please pop in to see us and let us know how the Town Council can help you. Of course, should you have any urgent issues, please contact the Town Council office directly and we look forward to meeting and hearing from you.
