Information about us
Tetbury Town Council provides a high quality, professional service which we are proud to say is accountable, proactive, responsive, inclusive and transparent.
Tetbury Town Council operates a three tier system of responsibility for the provision of services and support in the local community, with councillors all elected by people in the area. This tiered system of local government consists of county councils, district borough and city councils, and parish, community and town councils. You can find out more about the council structure, services and contact details here.
What does your Town Council do?
A good question! We are your local council and the first tier of the system. We have a wide and varied range of powers in relation to the provision of services and facilities which bring direct benefit to the local community.
These include:
- Local Planning (which covers anything from satellite dishes to new developments and roads)
- Economic development
- Environmental matters
- Community projects
- Leisure and recreation
- Contact with the District and County Council
- Complaints
- Information and advice
These don’t include:
- We are nothing to do with the church, who are governed by Parochial Councils (PCC)
- We are not politically affiliated
- We are not “residents” associations or “lobby” groups
- Town councillors are not paid
As Tetbury continues to grow and prosper, the representational aspect becomes increasingly more important. Decisions taken by the District and County Councils may vitally effect the quality of life within our town, therefore the role of the Town Council is of utmost importance.
In a continued effort to ensure services are retained locally, Tetbury Town Council has attained ‘Quality Status’ which will bring with it even greater responsibilities and possibly divulged powers from both District and County Council, thereby ensuring Tetbury Town Council may continue to serve the Community on a local level to the best of its ability.
