THIEVES TARGETING TRADE VANS

We have been made aware that thieves are currently targeting trade vans parked overnight to steal tools. As your tools are your livelihood, losing them can cause greater loss than their financial value. Make your van and tools secure by following some advice currently being provided by the Police.

Upgrading the security on your van and fit an independent alarm – do not rely on factory fitted alarms

Fitting additional locks on your van doors as some manufacturers locks can be picked, this will also disable the alarm

Fitting a quality tool chest in your van and secure it with a closed shackle padlock

Mark your tools so they are easily identifiable. Here are some suggestions how:-

* Use a permanent tool marking kit
* Engrave your name and telephone number together with IF SOLE CALL ME
* Spray paint your tools a bright colour
* Register all serial numbers from electrical items, tools and garden equipment with Immobilise.com the free national property register. Mark items without serial numbers with an artificial DNA property marker such as Smartwater or SelectaDNA
* Only use products and services recommended by Police-approved securebydesign.com

Please call 101 or email 101@gloucestershire.police.uk if you see any suspicious activity or if you think a crime is happening or about to happen do not hesitate to phone 999
